I see I’ve made a tactical mistake; the morale can be interpreted in multiple ways. Here’s the necessary background info.
***
It refers to geographical distance. The story is biased towards a character called “sister", from whom the protagonist is separated for a looong time. The “mom” character has always been there, yet she gets almost no credit when the outfit is being analyzed.
It would appear that “sister” > “mom” (just like “scissors” > “paper” :-), while the truth is that both characters have the same importance in the life of the protagonist.
p.s. Congratulations! Your comment happens to be comment #1000 :-)

let me flex my morale muscle a bit…
perceived value depends on the roundness of numbers. maybe it shouldn’t:)

Hahaha! You got me on that one! :-)
i was about to write a smiley manic comment like ‘aw i totally understand i’m the same my wardrobe is an oversize memory box’, and then i was demoralized by the morale. what kind of a distance are you talking about there?
