I was surprised to see that some people got on this site by searching 'how to get over a relationship' in Google, and found simple relationship mathematics.

There is another concept that has to be introduced to the world of social relationships - emotional escape velocity. Once again, we borrow something from physics and happily apply it to our emotional life.

What is escape velocity? In simple words, the escape velocity is the minimum speed an object needs to reach, in order to be able to move away from the gravity of something that attracts it.

If a rocket is launched, but it doesn't manage to develop that speed, then it will get back to the surface of the planet, attracted by the mighty G-force. So, if you want to get away, you must be sure you'll reach escape velocity, otherwise there is no point, since you're just wasting precious resources. "How does this work in our society", you ask? If you want to detach yourself from a person, you must put your effort into it, press the acceleration pedal, supply fuel when necessary; don't look back, don't re-evaluate your decisions. All these factors are barriers that prevent you from reaching EEV (emotional escape velocity), thus gaining your freedom. If you don't follow this rule, you will either collapse, or become a satellite that will orbit the body... still caught in its gravity field.
